What the pace calculator does

Enter a distance and a finish time to get pace per kilometre, pace per mile and average speed. The same numbers work for a training run, a race result or a goal time.

Why pace and speed tell different stories

Pace is minutes per unit and rises as you slow down, which matches how runners plan splits. Speed is distance per hour and falls as you slow down. Mixing the two in a training plan is a common source of confusion.

Who it is for

Runners, walkers and cyclists checking splits or converting a goal time into a pace to hold.

Frequently asked questions

Does it account for elevation?

No. Hills change the effort for the same pace. Use the result as a flat-course baseline and adjust splits by feel.

Is a marathon exactly 42.195 km?

Yes, and 26.2188 miles. Enter 42.195 for a marathon or 21.0975 for a half.

Why is my watch pace different?

Watches use GPS distance, which drifts on corners and in tunnels. A certified course and a measured time are the reference.
