Pace and Speed Calculator

Enter distance and time. The pace output is per kilometre; per-mile pace is shown separately.

Total time—
Pace per kilometre—
Pace per mile—
Average speed—

A zero distance or zero time leaves the pace undefined and shows a dash.

The arithmetic

Total seconds = hours × 3600 + minutes × 60 + seconds. Pace = total seconds ÷ distance. Per-mile pace multiplies the per-kilometre pace by 1.609344. Speed = distance ÷ hours.

Using it for goal times

To hold a target finish time, set the distance and time to the goal and read the per-kilometre pace. Check the split against your usual easy pace before committing to it in training.

Frequently asked questions

How do I enter a half marathon?

Enter 21.0975 km. For a marathon, use 42.195 km. Both are the certified distances.

Does the calculator handle walking?

Yes. Any distance and time work; the pace output is just as valid for a walk.

Why does per-mile pace look slower?

A mile is longer than a kilometre, so the minutes per mile are higher. The speed output is unaffected.
